Starter needed

I measured the current on my starter and found it to be >200 amps. I removed it and thoroughly cleaned and inspected it. It was dry, but full of carbon. I thought it would be good, but I was wrong. After reinstalling it measures ~170 amps. Still not good. Anyone have a good one laying around?

I wish Ray was still here, and I might be able to fix you up.... I have a good starter here but the rotation of the magnets to brushes is slightly off, so it makes a funny whine when you spin it over.... I can fix it if I had some info, however.....

Most of the bike starter motors are the same, even the mounts, with variations being the way the power is connected (to magnet housing or end housing, etc.) and maybe the rotation in some rare cases).

Might I suggest a new aftermarket one, from these guys, they seem to have a very good reputation and are in Atlanta. I'd rather you have it than the one I have with miles on it.

Ricks Motorsports Electrics has a rebuild kit that isn't priced to bad, it includes brushes, seals, armature. Everything you need for the rebuild.
They make a statement of some sort about not selling to those who's starter has been dismantled and I believe that has to do with the rotation of the magnets being orientated correctly. The video explaining this is hidden in their pictures.

My old 07 has been on the lift the last month and a half, starter has always worked well but I had the T/B's out so I pulled the starter to inspect. I'm glad I watched the video as I marked the hell out of the center case to insure I put it back together correctly.

I got a replacement starter for my '05 from these guys a few years ago:
https://www.dbelectrical.com/
Pretty much the same as the ebay item listed above by Ray.... price is currently $85 and mine fit perfect and continues to work great.
My original starter unit is quite re-usable after I cleaned up the brushes (dust and grime inside the starter case).
Regards,
Mr. BR

Good deal. That's the one I'd buy. Nice find Mr. BR.
