The Georgia\SouthCarolina chapter of the Order of Jwilly met today. After dutifully riding Rt28 and Cherohala as is part of the Chapter's protocol, we gathered at the usual location and contemplated and remembered in our own fashion.

The mysterious Mr. Lumberg may add a photo...

I see Mr. Daniels didn't survive the trip.

He was sacrificed to the thirst of the mountain king.

That's an organization worthy of a tattoo. Is there an Ohio chapter where I might submit my application?

Thanks for sharing.

You may have to submit a charter for approval to the National Order of Jwilly fraternal organization...

Raising a glass in his honor tonight. Hard to believe it has been a year. Screen is a little blurry.

I've been a little distracted lately as my last surviving uncle died...the last member of that generation. So I had been texting my cousin daily to encourage him and the funeral was last Friday. So last Saturday, I plug in the GPS route to Clayton. I look at the title: 5.21.22_to Clayton. I look again and my head sank in remembrance.

It was overcast, and temps were good. I knew it was going to rain, but there was hope of dry pavement for 4 hours atleast. A year ago, Duane couldn't meet up with us on that Saturday because of a bike issue...but when we met up in Clayton and our comms synced up, I heard an almost giddy Jason ready for a ride. It had been too long for him and he was ready to enjoy a ride. I will always treasure that tone and mood in my helmet comms. Always.

This past Saturday, the rain was supposed to hold off until2pm, or atleast noon anyways. It was drizzling on me this early Saturday morning when I was still 40 minutes away from the meet up spot. Its one thing to know yer going to eventually get rained on. Its another thing to start into it right off bat...knowing no dry mountain roads lay in your future. Sigh. Well, got to the BP off of Warwoman Rd and I was ready to tell Lumberg it was a no go. He wasn't having it. He said lets just change elevation and maybe it will get better. Didn't believe it for a minute...but followed his lead. He was right in no time. It ended up being a great day. We visited Turkey Creek on the Cherohala. Circumstances allowed us to honor our giddy friend, then allow the remnants of Mr. Jack Daniels to soak into the mountain.

It was a great ride a year ago on that day. Great ride. Great conversation over the comms with this talkative man. Duane couldn't be there, but there would be another time.

Until there wasn't.

I miss them both dammit.

One more very special place to visit my friend... Pescadero Beach along Hwy 1 is a heart place of mine for a myriad of reasons... it's a place of serenity where I go to sit and just... exist. The energy of the ocean always lifts up my soul and spirit and as I sat by this beach, eyes closed, feeling the synergy of that moment in time, I felt that mofo there with me... I've tried to explain the connection felt with those who have transitioned and it's kind of impossible... the best I can explain it is an energy hug around me... but I know what I feel and I know who it is... and it was Jason... and he was smiling... so this place has just more specialness to it... way more. <3

I've brought both motorcycles to the mountains this summer. Lumberg made the hour trek north on Saturday to meet me for a spirited FJR ride. I woke up fresh and excited about the day, and knew immediately where I wanted to ride: Cherahola Skyway and The Dragon. Lumberg obliged and even allowed me to lead ... er.... hold him back for the day.

We stop at Telico Plains to top off (fuel) and discharge ballast (that yellow-ish stuff) and as we swipe the kickstands up, Lumberg declares "Stop at the Turkey Creek Overlook. We'll say hello to Jason".

What an unexpected pleasant surprise. I couldn't get there fast enough, as Jason would have wanted.

Lumberg always thinks of everything. I lifted this one to my friend.

I miss you, brother. But know this - we ripped those big heavy bikes proper that day. I shredded that POS Bridgestone like an overcooked pork roast. I ground down both feeler pegs quite nicely.

We rode like you were right there with us. Like greased lightening trying (undoubtedly in vain) to catch you.

Stay thirsty, my friends....

I got back in the office this week after the power outages and a quick trip out west with the Mrs. Flipped the calendar over to July and I was sad. Losing friends sucks.

Best way to celebrate him is get out there and scrub some rubber off the tires. That would make him quite happy :)

It’s a good thing that words are not needed to describe the man……. Because I can’t seem to come up with the right ones.

This was taken somewhere on North Georgia. It was one of my first twisty rides after our incident in 2008. This was late summer 2009 I think

Pretty sure he said, "yeah, so you still suck at this riding thing..."

Only Jason was saluted today...the BRP and Cherohala were ridden. But too much much construction mess near the Cherohala today on 28 to consider also doing Hot Springs, Roan Mtn, and Rt 80. As it was, it was near 400 miles. Some documentation photos will be added...
