I had a headlight problem last night in my car. I'd reflashed it back to stock prior to [event]. You have to keep it on a charger while doing it so it doesn't drain the battery mid-flash and brick the ECU/etc.

My headlights were super-dim last night. Seems I turned OFF the headlights during the flash and never set them back to AUTO. Derp!

Not sure if it would be a problem for most here. The bikes you guys ride tend to get sold in private sales. However, the service manager told me it was better to let them do it. That way it shows up on Yamaha as recall completed for that serial number. He said they can't sell a bike that has recalls outstanding. Not sure if that is a Yamaha rule or just the practice of that dealership.
Probably not a real problem cause they could just do it over again.
I let them do the work cause I wasn't real confident doing it. Learning more and more as time goes by. Now I actually have time. So doing my own work is more important. Hopefully I do it right and save some money at the same time. Plus, gain some knowledge.

I reached my hand under the bike today. You can feel the left headlight plug without removing plastics. Maybe I will attempt to just replace it by feel next time. Cause if you go from underneath you sure can't see.

It is advisable (very advantageous) to remove the inner panel next to the glove box.... makes more room for your mitts. Same on right side.

Yea, don't think I could have changed the right one without the panel removed.

I inevitably sacrifice skin on wrist/fingers/ back of my hand whenever I change bulbs - fortunately not frequently. 2XL hands and mildly arthritic fingers do not make this a simple task.

Make sure you don't touch the glass envelope with sweaty fingers. Do yourself a favor and very lightly smear the rubber boots with silicone dielectric grease where they contact the housing. Makes it easier to put them back and simplifies future removal.

Dan, I drove 35 miles to see the same non-problem on the headlights on another guys bike!

The left bulb is still burning. Knock on wood.

This is Dan's fault.

I put a LED H4 bulb in my DRZ. Works great. They came in a 2 pack (auxbeam brand). So I decided to see what the other one looked like in the FJR. This set has no cooling fan, but does have a large heat sink. The base comes apart which allowed fitment of the rubber grommet.

Now I have to decide if I want to remove the skin on my other knuckles to make them match.

If its any consolation, the left one (driver's perspective) is easier than the right. I lose less skin when I do that one...

That's confidence inspiring!

I need to get out after dark to see the light pattern. I want to make sure it's hitting the reflector correctly and is throwing a usable pattern.
