Joe ...

Now the mis-understanding is out of the way ....

You might consider sending a drawing to Boyd Welding, and asking them to quote. They are a specialist welding shop in Florida, set-up to fabricate custom tanks.

The quality of their work is excellent, they are easy to deal with and reasonably priced. I get that you don't like my design, but I had it done like that for a reason. I cannot fault their welding.

After reading through 368 posts, that took place over a course of, like, 5 years, on the build of these beautiful auxiliary tanks..... I'm not sure if I have more questions or what. Lol.
I love it, I'm in for it. Now my questions become the installing process, and what all is included in the tank. More so- just how easy/hard is it plumb into the existing lines/tank.

If you would like, I can send you a pm or email, and continue to ask weird and "newbie" questions. I guess I just want to make sure that this is something I can do, and am willing to do to the bike.
Thanks!
I haven’t made any really bad decisions lately... I’m getting bored.

Julie - Philjet in Toledo installed one of these tanks a couple years ago. He is very helpful and most importantly has some good dimensions on where he installed the fitting in the tank. I think he is on this forum. I know he is on the other cat box, I mean sand box - FJRForum. :)

Dude,
If you do something that annoyed the hell out of someone, and then do the exact same F*@&ing thing again, is it a misunderstanding?
I am familiar with the place that welded your tank. I will never ask them to do work for me.
I've seen designs on other forums that were ingenious, and then I've seen somebody bragging about how much money they saved having the same tank made by your favored shop.

Please, stop endorsing them, especially in my threads, or I swear to Jesus, I'm going to lose my shit.
If you had any idea what it was like to create something unique and have that idea just totally ripped off...

I have given away more ideas, and shared more technical details than most. I want to shorten the learning curve for others and be helpful, just as I have been helped. But, please be respectful of the amount of effort that goes into obtaining that knowledge, and applying it to solve a problem.

There's this thing called the Patent Office. Use it or don't, but if not, don't bitch when someone steals an idea and figures out how to do it cheaper. ESPECIALLY when that idea is posted all over a public forum.

You do nice work Joe, but you either have to protect your efforts, or assume someone is going to like what you did and copy it. It's irritating as Hell, but it's a compliment to your skills.

Okay ... a number of points.

1. This is not your Forum, not your thread.

2. If you got annoyed, that's your problem, not mine

3. I wasn't "bragging about saving money", I was politely informing riders that I was happy with the service I got. That is what forums are for.

4. My "favored shop is nothing of the sort. It is simply a firm I did business with, and was happy with. This kind of sharing of information is critical in the modern world.

5. Lose your shit? You already have and it ain't pretty.

6. No one has ripped you off ... but your tank does look very like a minor redesign of a Summit 5-Gallon (see, I can be nasty too when pushed hard enough).

7. You are not the only person to design a tank. It's a tank ... Mike Langford does awesome work :D

Joe ....

You turned this nasty trying to peddle your wares exclusively, and attacking another forum user (me), who made the simple mistake of posting a couple of tank pictures by mistake. Quite frankly, you should be thanking me for showing my nasty $300 tank. Surely that will ensure a flood of orders for your pretty $800 tank.

Are you done now? Can I go back to being nice?

‘Zilla
It seems that you are missing my point. This has happened before. In spite of my best efforts to clearly articulate the issue, and my perspective on it, my point is not getting through.

Case in point: Once upon a time there was an agitated forum member who didn’t like some crack I made about his low mile bike he had for sale. It escalated, and he went off the rails, off the reservation, cuckoo for cocoa puffs. His game was to “vote down” my posts. This was not a big deal, as the other forum members voted them back up. His solution? Go back to old, dead posts and vote them down.
Now, what sort of nut does that? I brought it to a certain forum admin’s attention and the response I received, was “stop posting stupid shit”.
Did the admin have a point? Yes. Now, years later, after self-medicating and throwing myself into my work, I am able to admit that I played a role.

What does any of that have to do with this?

I’m glad you asked.

My points were these:
1. If you have an issue with someone, sneaking around and slashing their tires is not the way to deal with it. Be a man. Voting down old, dead posts is wrong and should not be a thing.
2. A “reputation” meter is a bad idea. Giving multiple votes to people is not democratic and promotes abuse.

In the end, my perspective was never seen. And, the more I tried, the worse it made it. Somehow, I ended up looking like a nut while trying to point out someone else’s nuttiness.

I found out that Bust-a-Nut had met the guy, and said he was a… (well, I won’t use the word, but it was not flattering). Now, contrast that with what Bust would say about me.

**Deep Breath**
(back to the present) What point of mine do I feel is being missed in this thread?
Seriously? Am I that bad at conveying my message?
My point is not about undercutting my price, or stealing my idea. There is a reason I need to sell these tanks in multiples. I am not worried that someone can make the equivalent for less. The exception would be if someone else was to mass produce them, and the market will not support that.
So, I won’t be visiting the patent office any time soon.

The truth is, if it wasn’t griff asking for a tank, I would not go through the considerable inconvenience of making them again. I don’t try to hawk these things because I’m making money on them. I am selling them because someone wants them and I find that rewarding.

The reason I am so torqued at twigg is the other side of the same coin. If you don’t appreciate my work, I don’t need you to post multiple times about what I could do differently.

twigg, Please don’t go off the rails and start voting down my old, dead posts.

Just to note. If you post in a dedicated for sale portion of the forum then it's kinda your thread. It's bad form for someone to come in and crap all over your for sale thread telling you how you are ripping people off.

That said, if something is posted in one of the general forums, it irks me to no end when someone thinks that because they started a thread that they own it. This thread is an example, but not alone in that matter. And not just here but many forums. It's a community discussion board and the thread starter doesn't necessarily get to dictate the direction of the discussion, the community does. Sometimes threads get derailed and need to be guided back on track. We've seen how that can be done in a bad way on other forums not to be named. But attacks should be kept to a minimum.

Unfortunately this appears to have been posted in an open forum about farkles with a topic of "Auxiliary Tank" so any discussion regarding farkles like aux tanks would be within the boundaries of the discussion.

As for the tank, it's as beautiful as aux tanks can be, and I wish I could part with the money for it and see the value. I don't because like others my arse and bladder are barely good for the stock tank. Perhaps a dedicated group buy thread would be in order here to keep things going as Joe would like. After all, it looks like the purpose of this thread, to determine if there's interest, has been served already.

Catching up on my weekly reading...

So, this is a thread about aux tanks for the FJR; specifically, Joe2lmaker testing the waters to see if there is interest in a production run of his tank design which was generated by another member (Griff) being interested in one.

No issue with discussing other designs - if you like I can split those posts discussing other designs to another thread and all designs and methods of fuel range and capacity can be discussed.

Any further debate or discussion between Joe2Lmaker and Twigg can be just that - between you two - take it to a PM, text, email, or a phone call - but there's been enough of it here.

Joe - I think your count of "interested" is 3, and these is also some questions about install (FJRFarrier).

Twigg - if you want to continue the discussion about other aux fuel options, like Marty's option or whatever, please do so in another thread.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

O.k.
I'm on it. There will be some sort of something going on. No details yet.

Next question: Since the other forum views this forum as a buncha malicious malcontents, I'm wondering if there is a way to make it known over there that these tanks will be built.
Making something known over there that something is going on over here is problematic.
However, there are good people over there, just as there are good people over here. And, everybody would win because the price would drop.

This is a delicate situation, and you may have noticed: I don't have a delicate cycle.

I'm going to kick the idea around a bit... Please, DO NOT get ahead of me stir anything up over there.

On another topic, I should contact some current owners and see if one has time to help me design a different valve set-up. Reducing the number of pieces might be possible, but I'm not sure there is room.

And, if that bottom lower plate is going to be redesigned, I might replace the JAZZ flush mount cap with a bung filler neck and cap combo. If the change is made, it will be to all of them, so if you love the option of a flat top as I once did, you should make some noise about it now.

Well, I'm assuming you are wondering about getting the fuel into the main tank.
I came up with a solution that was totally reversible. In fact, my Triumph Tiger now has the fuel pump flange that I modified.
If you look in another forum, and go to my profile there, I have a link to that project. It works beautifully.

Unfortunately, you will need to tap the experience of someone who has a solution that will work for you. The information is out there though. There are a lot of generous people who shorten up the learning curve considerably.

Another question you will need to answer is do you want gravity feed or an auxiliary fuel pump? I pumped. It just made sense to me. Plus, there are directions out there for timers and you can make a switch that will ensure you don't burn up a pump. Or, go with a momentary on switch.

If there is room for a valve with bigger throughput, I will add it. What I had worked perfect for me, but I am open to improvements.

Joe- I would like to holler pretty loudly for the flat top. Unless you can sway me strongly for the other design.
