What did you do to your FJR today?

Saturday I rode the FJR to my mom's farm up North to winterize her Jet Ski (wash and wax included of course). Ride is about 1.5 hours each way, with much of it in farm country and very little traffic. Ride there stats:

9 cars passed.
100+ speeds achieved.
All oncoming bikers waved.
One leg cramp.
One missed 2nd gear.
Dirt Road certified.

All in all a great ride. I couldn't help but think how lucky I've been to be on FJR's for 22 years.

Changed, balanced and installed 2 new RS4's yesterday. Today changed the oil and filter and got it inspected. Now I need to purge the brake and clutch fluid. Then check bearings on trailer for WV trip next week to EOM.

I rode my FJR from John Day Oregon to home. I was undecided about the route. There are three, east, west and central up US 395. As I have been on the road for a week and had been on the west and east route earlier this year I choose US 395 for it nice pavement, the first 70 miles to Battle Mountain are quite nice and it is the shortest good route home.

US 395 crosses 5 ridges and today motorcyclists are the benefactors of the geologically diverse area.

Nice morning ride in the Box!



Ukiah-Dale Forest State Scenic Corridor follows Highway 395 along the North Fork of the John Day River and Camas Creek. For some reason the state choose to assign numbers to some of the turns. I don't know why but like me these signs have been here many years.



Soon I was out of the mountains on in range land.



And back in Washington I was in the lonesome wheat fields on Hwy 12. The riding here is quite good following the undulations of the landscape.





After being west of the Cascades in the more populated areas it was nice to be back on the east side where there is little traffic, except for the occasional combine! A Tote Goat could pass one of these things. For the FJR it was child's play.



I have been out here 7 years now and love it. There is very good motorcycling in the Spokane area.

There was no wind, rather unusual, to see the water so calm.



A nice looking church near Hwy 127 and WA 26 in Eastern Washington. I like the white paint with simple black trim. The field in the background was fallow last year and has been recently planted so I am looking forward to a photo next May when the wheat is tall and green.

It was a good day to be on smooth roads with the FJR. It is like any motorcycle. Ride it within it's design envelope and reap it's rewards. Years ago I knew a guy who had a few airhead BMWs and one Harley Road King. I asked him, in all sincerity, why the Road King? He said he and his wife like to ride cross country on the Harley and if you rode it in it's envelop it was the perfect motorcycle for the job and very enjoyable. I never forgot that nugget of knowledge.

Tote goat threw me off. Had to Google it, and found out a tote gote is what the left coasters call a "mini bike" in the Midwest, where I'm from. Not sure what they call them down in the South? A tote gote could go right under, and not have to pass. BTW, great pics.

Dropped It! so, getting ready for my surgery next week and being told a 6 week recovery period where I'll be restricted from lifting anything more than 10 lbs. I thought it might mean an early end to my riding season. (cant see me dancing with the fat girl for that time and maybe beyond), and given the forecast for a snowy winter and since this year I need to store the bike outside (no garage) I decided to get it done while I am still able. So, added my seafoam, went for a short ride and topped off the tank and proceeded to ride up my drive way to a spot where I can chain it up to an iron railing. So I pull next to the railing and begin to jockey back and forth to get it into the proper position. I go to put her on the side stand and $h!!t I forgot to put the side stand down. So you know what happens next once you go past that point of no return. the bike goes over into the railing almost pinning my left leg in between the bike and the railing. Tried picking her up but no dice, had to call my brother in law to come over and give me a hand. Luckily (or maybe unluckily) the only damage was the left side mirror and a minor scratch on the windshield. Well I know what I'll be attacking as soon as I'm able. Has anyone replaced just the glass of the mirror?? Maybe I should've put this in the Complaint thread?

I tried getting the glass out of the mirror I broke off and I wasn't able. It's a nice mirror and was untouched in my drop except for the stalk and I could have found uses for it. IIRC it was $105 back then to replace it. Maybe pick up a set of those fancy FZ1 mirrors everyone is so fond of.

So, WTF was wrong?

Purged the brake fluid today, activated the ABS several times and the bled again. Also purged the clutch fluid, which was a PIA seeing as I have an AE.
Yesterday I R&R the trailer bearings. Nothing was wrong with them just preventative. Just have to wash the bike and load them on the trailer.
