What did you do to your FJR today?

Flew back to Ft Myers and Uber’d to my bike on Sanibel Island. Rode it 125 miles to Rob and Marie’s house. Rob surprised me halfway there and rode with me. Marie prepared chicken and dumplings - a first for me. Very good.

Installed my taller touring National Cycle windshield. I have been running the Sport/Tour windsheild which is about 3" shorter than the touring windshield but no wider. I am hoping for less buffeting.

Suggestion..... put 3/8-1/2" shims (need longer bolts) on the 4 windshield brackets to raise the windshield off the fairing further..... the airflow going up the back edge will lessen the buffeting.

The last thing I wanted on my Gen3 was more air in the cockpit. I went back, unshimmed the bottom and shimmed the top to make it stand up straighter. Much better for me. It'll take some playing with but you can significantly change the air on you with small manipulations of the screen angle.

Did you get the 20308, or the 20309?

Rode it to work. After a month of riding the KTM with it's mind bending 44 horsepower, it was time for the FJR to get some love. Holy crap. Felt like I was sitting on a drag bike waiting for the green light to flash. 100 more horsepower really makes a difference

Yup, for an expensive seat of the pants power upgrade on your motorcycle, just buy a lower power bike and ride it for a while. Big grins.

I have the 20309 and the touring screen I bought from you. 20309 is a barn door. Gets you out of the wind completely, but I keep the touring screen on all the time now. It just seems to work for me. You can try out the 20309 if you like.

I felt the same thing yesterday. Rode the 250KLX to school. Got home and hopped on the FJR to go play in the Wednesday card game. Snapping the throttle open is an instant hit with smooth strong torque.

320 miles for me today on the FJR. Ended at Sopchoppy campground with Bungie. Dude took REAL good care of me dinner wise. You’ll have to wait for the ride report food porn.

The 20309 wagged non stop for me, from the ears at the top. My Aeroflow cracked at a screw hole on a turbulent interstate strafing run, so I’m back in a touring screen too.

The 20309 does indeed flop a bit in stock form..... shimming the rear up 1/8" and the front 1/4" (or even 3/8) will settle that right down. Now I have since tried a 20308 shimmed both ends 1/2" and found that even better.

Hi Bill,

I have a National Cycle N20308 (Sport Touring) and a N20309 (Touring) screens. I removed the shorter Sport Touring screen and replaced it with the taller Touring screen in hopes of reducing buffeting and noise.

After riding about 200 miles with the larger screen in 50 degree temps I am very pleased with the result. The first thing I noticed is the screen at it's lowest position is closer to my head. The next thing I noticed is I didn't have to raise the screen very much. Buffeting and noise was much less so this is a big win for me. I will keep the taller screen on the bike and see how it goes this summer when it gets hot.

At the windscreen's lowest setting the wind hits me about mid helmet so it was possible to use the upper helmet vents. I could not lower the screen enough to take advantage of the chin vent.

Geometry.

My FJR has a Russell Saddle and it is about 19-20 inches above the foot pegs. The seat is 27" lower than the top of the windscreen at the windscreen's lowest position. I am 6' 0" tall with a 32 inch inseam.

Obviously this set up isn't for everybody, depending on how the bike is set up, the person's height and inseam, climate and personal preferences.

325 miles today. The ride this morning on the coast was quite nice, as this part of Florida is relatively scarce and the beach is more natural.

At Port St Joe, I turned north to the dreaded I-10 slab looking to make miles. For a while, it was actually tolerable with the cruise set at 15-ish over (err… 20, bad Pants). Unfortunately, a massive accident on the Mobile Bay bridge was predicting a 2-hour delay. I detoured and literally crawled for 90 minutes. With the radar showing heavy rain heading toward me, I bailed and got a room in Daphne, AL. The thought of riding over open water in a severe thunderstorm was more than I was willing to risk.

Happy hour running at the Mexican place next door. Guess it could be worse. . Hopefully home tomorrow.

I went out for a ride today the second ride this year! Whoo hoo!!

My direction was south out into the Palouse wheatfields because the good roads in the mountains to the north are still sketchy. The weather was perfect today, 50-60 degrees and no wind.

This farmer has an endless pool.



Nice roads out here but the pavement is uneven at best.
